Following a remarkable 45 years of service, Watch Manager Euros Edwards attended his final drill night at Crymych Fire Station on Tuesday, August 27.
Euros has faithfully served the communities of Pembrokeshire for over four decades, starting his career with the then Dyfed Fire Brigade in 1979, and has been instrumental in maintaining high levels of availability at Crymych Fire Station throughout his career.
In 1998, Euros played a key role in introducing a voluntary Co-Responder scheme to Crymych, an initiative which has provided invaluable support for the local Ambulance Service and has undoubtedly saved many lives.
Earlier this year, Euros was recognised for his long-standing career and commitment when he was awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM). In the company of his family, friends and colleagues, Euros was presented with his BEM by His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Dyfed, Miss Sara Edwards.
Euros said:
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my career as an On-Call Firefighter with Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MAWWFRS). It has been a real privilege to serve and protect the communities of Pembrokeshire for over 45 years, but it’s now time to hang up my helmet for the final time.
I’ve witnessed many changes throughout my time with the Service, not only in the developments in technology and equipment, but also with the formation of MAWWFRS in 1996.
For anyone considering becoming an On-Call Firefighter, my advice would be to just give it a go, there is so much you can learn and it such a worthwhile role.”
Presenting Euros with a Long Service Certificate during his final drill night was Temporary Area Manager Sean Lloyd, who said:
“Euros has demonstrated excellent commitment and dedication to the community of Crymych and the surrounding areas.”
Euros was also presented with a commemorative tie by Deputy Chair of Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Authority, Councillor John Davies, and a silver axe by Temporary Watch Manager Dylan Edwards.
Watch Manager Euros Edwards officially retired on Friday, August 30.
Everyone at MAWWFRS thanks Euros for his dedicated service and wishes him a long and happy retirement!
