Tenby’s fire crew have raised an amazing £11,000 for the Firefighters Charity from fundraising events held throughout the year.
The money was raised from Tenby Fire Station’s Annual Carnival (which this year marked the centenary of carnivals being held in the town) and open day.
A car wash and selling teas, coffees and bacon rolls during the annual Ironman Wales triathlon event in the town also contributed towards the fundraising.
The grand total also includes receipts from the special Tenby Carnival Centenary Book that the station published.
The cheque was presented to Deputy Chief Fire Officer Roger Thomas of Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, on behalf of the Firefighters Charity.
“I’m extremely proud of our firefighters and the communities they serve in raising money for such a worthy cause,” said Roger.
“This substantial sum of money raised by Tenby Fire Station underlines their standing within the community and amply illustrates the respect and admiration for our local firefighters.
“The Firefighters Charity supports Fire and Rescue Service personnel and their families during times of need; caring for their mental and physical health and wider wellbeing.
“I am both humbled and delighted to accept this cheque on their behalf,” he added.
Tenby firefighter Rhys Thomas said that the amount raised wouldn’t be possible without the support of the community and local businesses.
“For that we are truly grateful. The money goes to the firefighters charity and will go to helping firefighters all over the country with any physical or mental support and rehabilitation,” he said.
