An award-winning Pembrokeshire butcher has won another major contract.
Andrew Rees & Sons Ltd of Narberth has secured the contract to supply fresh meat to Ceredigion County Council over the next two years, with the option to continue for a further two years.
Andrew Rees & Sons Ltd was originally set up 27 years ago when Andrew and his wife bought a butcher’s shop in High Street, Narberth.
At this time, the shop was run by Andrew and one apprentice butcher.
Gradually, the business expanded and Andrew started supplying a few local pubs and restaurants.
Over the years, the business has expanded further, and, as well as the shop, it also includes a wholesale/catering unit in the town with a factory shop selling meat, dried goods, frozen food, catering supplies and cleaning products which is open to both the public and catering customers.
The business employs 22 members of staff, including butchers, apprentices, drivers and administration staff.
“We’re proud and honoured to have won this contract,” said Andrew.
“We have invested in a new delivery van and are looking into recruiting more members of staff. This is an important next step in the growth of our business and we’re grateful to Ceredigion County Council for selecting us. I can assure you we will provide the best quality meat to schools and council premises, including leisure centres and nursing homes.”
The retail shop in Narberth is open six days a week and has a fantastic range of local meat, game, poultry and fish. Christmas is just around the corner and orders are being taken for seasonal fayre.
The catering side of the business also supplies schools and premises for Pembrokeshire County Council along with over 300 restaurants, hotels, public houses, nursing and residential homes and tourist attractions.
Andrew added: “Good quality meat is an essential part of a healthy, balanced diet. Our sons are now grown up, but they would have been blown away to think their dad was supplying meat to their school! I can confidently assure parents that as a parent myself, the meat their children will be eating is the best and prepared in five star food hygiene rated premises.”
