Pembrokeshire’s very own ‘Captain Phillips’ will be stepping closer to his goal of running 500 marathons in April when he once again takes on this year’s London Marathon.

David Phillips, an accountant by trade, and member of the Pembrokeshire Harriers and the Massey Ferguson Runners in Coventry, divides his time with his family living in Penally and Warwickshire.

For the 18th successive year, he’ll be leading Team Phillips and the Daily Telegraph team of runners at the London Marathon on April 22 raising funds for the Brain and Spine Foundation Charity.

The target for ‘Team Phillips’ this year is to reach £10,000 which will greatly help the charity assist those people suffering from neurological conditions, brain tumors and associated conditions and there are many thousands out there with little help to call on.

“This will be my 18th year with them in London marathons and thanks to your huge generosity I’ve raised £107,000 for them,” said David.

“Many years ago my target was 500 marathons and £100,000. London will be my 492nd and the charity keeps raising the bar and won’t let me go or stop fundraising.

“They made me a community ambassador so I must just keep plodding on asking for sponsorship!

“This year we have as our honorary captain Colin Jackson the world record holder and Olympian hurdler.

“We met him recently at the Brain and Spine Foundation Charity and Daily Telegraph team launch party in London and what an inspiration he is!

“I must take this chance to thank all donors in the past because as a result of our combined work and your generosity, my wife Robina and I have been invited to a Garden Party in May at Buckingham Palace, so again thanks everyone,” he added.
