The Gordon Street section of ASDA’s car park was transformed into a yuletide market for one especially Christmassy Saturday in Pembroke Dock.

Morning visitors had to pick their way carefully across the frozen patches, but they were rewarded with the cheery site of stallholders, including one for the new Dockside Art Gallery and another manned by staff of the Heritage Centre, which is now closed for the winter but will reopen in February.

Father Christmas admitted that even he was cold in his grotto, but there was still a warm welcome for children.

The ice on roads and pavements had mostly thawed by lunchtime, and it was time for Pembrokeshire’s energetic and noisy samba band, Samba Doc to process from Albion Square via Bush Street and Laws Street to the Christmas market. It was a colourful spectacle beneath the blue sky, with the marchers all decked out in red and santa hats, and tapping, shaking or banging all manner of percussion instruments.

Then, having set off from Pembroke at 1pm, the 3 Amigos Toy Run saw more than 160 motorbikes accompany Santa’s sleigh through Dimond Street and Meyrick Street on their way to deliver some Christmas cheer to the children’s ward at Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest.

At 3.30pm it was time for the young dancers of the Vibe School of Dance to perform incredibly well despite the cold and make their teachers proud. Afterwards, the school expressed a “big massive thank you” to Pembroke Dock Town Council, adding that the children loved it.
