FOLLOWING New Year greetings from Vice-President Hilary, Rev’d Shirley Murphy gave a detailed talk to Summerhill WI on the customs, culture and religion of her birth country of India.
Rev’d Shirley talked about marriage customs, the caste system and different religious demographics of the country. She explained her personal journey, from moving to Britain to attend university to marriage and eventually being ordained.
Hilary gave the vote of thanks for a very informative talk before refreshments were served and the raffle won by Marilyn.
The meeting continued with Hilary extending a warm welcome to guest Belinda Jones. Apologies were noted and birthday greetings sent to Marlene, Hilary, Margaret, Linnia, Joanne and Sue E.
Hilary was thanked for the top table flowers and all ladies for their food bank donations. Sympathy was extended to Pam on the sad loss of her brother Peter.
Upcoming events were discussed, including the display of WI events and crafts in the hall, and the March 1 dance event and coffee morning, also in the hall in Summerhill.
The financial statement was given and federation letter read and items noted before the resolution choices made. Members were very pleased to see that the sum of £70 had been raised and donated to the Salvation Army in lieu of Christmas cards at the December meeting.
Summerhill WI meets on the second Monday of the month in Amroth Parish Hall, Summerhill at 7pm. All are most welcome to go along and pay them a visit on Monday, February 10.
