ST ISSELL’S WI gave a special welcome to their March speaker, Samantha Turner, who runs the High Street Ecoast shop in Saundersfoot.
Sam started by saying that Wales is the second best country in the world for recycling, and Pembrokeshire’s record is even better. She had brought along bags and plant pots that had been made out of discarded wetsuits, inner tubes from bicycles and fishing nets.
Items that can be taken to the shop include bread bags, biscuit wrappings, milk bottle tops ink cartridges and used postage stamps.
Sam gave details of litter picking equipment which could be collected from the shop, and it was felt that the WI might be able to help with this especially the beach cleaning.
Mary Howells thanked Sam for a most interesting and informative talk, feeling sure that ladies would be doing more recycling in the future. Following refreshments, Shelagh Griffin was thanked for the flowers for the top table, and Janet Standing was the sole March birthday girl.
Final arrangements were made for the coach to the Torch Theatre for Anything Goes, leaving the arcade at 6pm. The event at the Regency Hall on March 1 when ladies made and sold Welsh cakes and bara brith realised £150; thanks was expressed to all who had helped.
Two teams will be entering the quiz on April 4. It was agreed to order bulbs for planting in September, which could possibly be displayed outside the Regency Hall next spring. There was some interest in the guided walk at Colby Gardens in May, and final arrangements were in hand for the rosebowl competition.
A pudding and wine evening fundraiser has been planned for June 18. Competition winner was Mary Lawrence, with Shelagh winning the raffle. President Diane Rigden reminded ladies that the April meeting will be reverting back to the 7.15pm start, with the competition being something you would like to see on your desk. Subscriptions of £51 will be due at the April meeting.
