NEXT month, Amroth beach will be the scene of the 16th RNLI Annual Fishing Open, in aid of the Angle and Tenby Lifeboats.
The competition, organised by Pembroke and District Angling Club and Osprey SAC, will take place on Sunday, February 16, with fishing from 12 noon until 4pm and book-in at the Temple Bar Inn between 10am and 11.30am (by kind permission of Mr Ian Wilkinson).
Entry is £10, plus a team-of-two option for £2 each, both anglers to weigh in. Prizes of £200, £100 and £50 will be awarded for the heaviest bag of flatfish, the heaviest of any fish and the second heaviest bag of flatfish. plus a Ladies Prize and a free Junior (under 16s) Prize Table (£30, £20 and £10).
There are also lots of great raffle prizes to be won - all in the cause of saving lives at sea.
The rules state that only one sizeable fish, other than Flatfish, is to be presented at the scales, all fish to scales in suitable containers, to keep unwanted fish alive. Fishing is only to take place between markers and, apart from stewards, no rod stand is to be on the beach before the angler has booked in. The committee reserves the right to refuse entry - in the case of any dispute its decision will be final - and reminds anglers to dispose of all litter and rubbish appropriately, including any found on the beach.
