CAREW WI had a full house for the annual general meeting, not a surprising turnout when the business meeting is preceded by a sumptuous salad lunch made and prepared by the committee.
Members look forward to this event in the hope that yet again Carol’s pickled onions and her other home made pickles are on the table. A choice of cold meats, quiche, pasta salad, rice salad, coleslaw and new potatoes all served with crusty bread was followed by the pudding choices which included Bronwen’s roulade - always a firm favourite. Margaret’s fruit salad was a hit of course as was the cheesecake, apple pie and trifle.
Suitably refreshed, members settled down to voting in Committee members and officials while dealing with the usual business and items in the County Letter.
Guest “tellers” were suitably isolated during this time and even though a very important election was happening “across the pond”, tensions and anticipation was palpable as the votes were counted. President Edith was voted back in as President and looked back on a wonderful year packed with exceptional guest speakers, outings and group events.
Treasurer Julie, and Secretary Liz delivered their reports and were both re elected into those positions. A new member, Erica, was welcomed to committee.
Christmas lunch details were finalised, competition entries ratified and birthdays celebrated.
Although members had enjoyed company and good food, they did not forget those who may need a helping hand and brought items to be delivered to PATCH. December’s meeting will also include donations to the PATCH charity. Food parcels are needed more than ever this winter as families struggle and juggle with eating or heating. The ladies had a most enjoyable afternoon together and look forward to December’s meeting and the Christmas lunch at Picton Castle.
