RECENTLY, Christians from different churches in Pembroke, Pembroke Dock and surrounding areas met at St John’s Church, Pembroke Dock to take part in the global wave of prayer.

This year the service was prepared by the Christian Women of the Cook Islands in the Pacific Ocean.

The theme chosen by them was ‘I made you wonderful,’ which is based on the words of Psalm 139. They shared stories of their struggle during Covid-19, of their culture being devalued and of the improvements in obstetric health care, we give thanks for their honesty and their witness to God’s strength in their lives. They wrote: “God knows us all intimately and we are special to God in our uniqueness.” Through this service they hoped that people would be spiritually uplifted as they come to trust the great love of God.

Women from various churches took part, making it a truly ecumenical service, and pictures showing the Cook Islands and their peoples and ways of life was displayed at the front of the Church, alongside a table draped in a blue cloth representing the sea, and holding shells, coconut oil, water and flowers representing things that are important in the area.

During the service, the offering was taken, which amounted to £175.00, and this will be used to help projects both in this country and worldwide. Light refreshments were provided at the close of the service.

The local WDoP Committee would like to thank Rev’d Alex Grace, and everyone involved in the service and look forward to next year, when the Christian Women of Nigeria will prepare the service.
