As the New Year gets underway, the Paul Sartori Foundation, Pembrokeshire’s hospice at home charity is encouraging people to make their New Year’s resolutions truly meaningful.
Paul Sartori Hospice at Home provides care and support to patients in Pembrokeshire with life-limiting illnesses. The charity’s free services, which include hands-on nursing care, equipment loans, and emotional support, are made possible by the generosity of the local community.
By supporting the Paul Sartori Foundation, either by pledging to donate, fundraise, or volunteer, you can help ensure more families receive the compassionate end-of-life care they need in Pembrokeshire.
Joanne Lutwyche, Paul Sartori’s new Community Relationship Officer is there to help you turn your New Year’s resolutions into fundraising opportunities. Whether planning a personal challenge, organising a community event, or just looking for creative ways to give back, Jo can provide guidance and support to make your efforts impactful.
“Starting the New Year by focusing on giving back is incredibly rewarding,” said Jo. “We’re here to support anyone who wants to fundraise for Paul Sartori Hospice at Home, no matter how big or small their idea may be.”
One inspiring example of community-driven fundraising is the story of Ed and Karin Morris, who hiked the entire Pembrokeshire Coast Path in memory of Ed’s father, Peter Morris from Hayscastle Farm in Letterston, who had received support from the charity before his passing some years ago.
Ed and Karin’s journey, featured on the Facebook page ‘Hike for Paul Sartori’, highlights their incredible 186-mile trek along the scenic coastal trail, which they completed in August 2024. Ed and Karin Morris were met at the end of their epic 186-mile hike by family members, as well as Sandra Dade and Joanne Lutwyche from The Paul Sartori Foundation.
It truly is a story of sticking to a personal resolution, as not only did the pair have to do this gruelling hike in two stages as it was interrupted by Covid, but Ed and Karin are based in Sydney, Australia, and flew halfway across the world to complete their chosen fundraising challenge!
After 300 km of hiking, 18 days, seven rainstorms, five blisters, four seal sightings, two river crossings, and one broken walking stick, Ed declared that it was all worth the effort. Through their epic hike, they raised nearly £4,000 and a significant amount of awareness for Paul Sartori Hospice at Home, showcasing how personal resolutions can make a lasting difference for families in need in Pembrokeshire, no matter how far you must travel to accomplish them. Their determination to overcome pandemics, several flights, thousands of miles, and the changeable Welsh weather is a testament to the power of individual initiative on an entire community.
