NARBERTH Ladies Probus Club president Jane Davies was delighted to welcome Susie Lincoln as guest speaker.
Susie is well known locally for her wonderful handmade sheepskin boots and accessories. The Narberth-based company has been keeping Pembrokeshire's feet warm for 45 years since 1979. She began making boots as a way of fitting in with the needs of a young family, working mostly through the winter months when demand for the products was at its highest.
Initially, she would draw round and the customer’s feet to create a template and so ensure a perfect fit, as the boots have therapeutic benefits for anyone suffering from paediatric problems. Each pair originally had the owner’s name inscribed on the side.
In addition to her sheepskin business, Susie also gave spinning demonstrations at Folly Farm, using wool from the rare sheep breeds.
However, Susie finally decided to retire this year and sold the business to Bethan Thomas, who is selling her wares in Tenby Market Hall.
Susie then presented a fascinating series of photos to showcase her products, modelled by several family members. She also brought along a number of items for club members to examine, as well as other interesting memorabilia. Many club members then reminisced about their first pair of Suzy’s Ugg boots.
President elect Jane John thanked Susie for her fascinating talk. The next speaker event is on February 6 at the Plas when Bethan Hughes will be giving a talk on ‘Realising educational potential, raising aspirations and breaking down barriers. New members are always welcome.
