A SPECIAL service was held in St Nicholas and St Teilo’s Church, Penally to celebrate the Patronal Festival of St Teilo on February 9.

The service was conducted by Rev’d Steve Brett, LMA Dean and Father Paul Boyle, Vicar of Penally and St Issell’s, Saundersfoot. The sermon was preached by The Very Reverend Dr Jason Bray, Dean of Llandaff Cathedral.

St Teilo, a sixth century missionary, is reputed to have been born near Penally and when he died three locations claimed the right to bury him. These were Penally where he was born, Llandeilo Fawr, the place where he died and Llandaff as the main location of his ministry.

According to tradition, the question was solved when overnight one body became three identical bodies. Dr Bray preached on the achievements of these early Christians. There is a small exhibition on the history of St Teilo in Penally Church.
