TENBY Community Fridge is based at the Old Chapel on Lower Frog Street but that and the café will be closed from tomorrow until further notice, to enable staff and volunteers to take their annual holidays.
The aim of the Fridge is to rescue food that would otherwise be thrown out by the local supermarkets, and enable people to pop in and pick up anything they are able to make use of. It has saved hundreds of kilos of perfectly edible food.
The fridge relies on volunteers to keep it going. Volunteers pop in each morning to check the fridge temps and make sure it is clean and tidy ready for the day; others pop in in the afternoon to check the temperatures. Still others go around the local supermarkets in the evening to collect all the food before the supermarkets put it in the skip.
If you are able to offer any future help with the Community Fridge, please get in touch. Half an hour a week would be great!
