The Rotary Club of Saundersfoot held their first duck race of the season at Saundersfoot harbou on Sunday, July 6. The weather was good and the race contributed to an amazing atmosphere on the day of the Saundersfoot Harbour Festival on the final day of Pembrokeshire Fish Week. The officials on the starting line were Rotarians Peter Williams and Keith Leighfield. The sluice gates were opened and the ducks went off to a flying start, but slowed as the prevailing breeze took effect. They soon rounded the turn into the final straight, aided by encouraging shouts from spectators, where Rotarians Neil Sefton, Charles Hopkinson and Mac Walapu were waiting at the finish line to rescue the ducks. Congratulations to Vicky Anne Brooks, of Abergavenny, who bought the winning duck and a reminder to everyone that the next duck race to be organised by the club is this Sunday, July 20. All of the profits made on the day will be used to support local and international projects and Rotary work in the community. The president and members of the Rotary Club of Saundersfoot would like to thank the Harbour Commissioners for allowing the event to take place and the public for their support.
