Natasha Asghar MS says vulnerable children in Wales are being failed under the Labour Welsh Government as school exclusions increase.

Recent figures reveal that in primary schools, the percentage of students with Special Educational Needs or Additional Learning Needs excluded has increased from 2.4% in 2018/19 to 3.0% in 2022/23. In secondary schools, the exclusions of such students surged from 9.4% in 2018/19 to 11.6% in 2022/23.

The Welsh Conservative Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Education said:

“Labour cannot ignore the fact that due to their underfunding, schools and councils are grappling with resource shortages and overcrowded classrooms, the consequences of which are being borne by those who need the most support.”
