Valero Pembroke Refinery held an Apprentice Open Day on Wednesday, February 12 as part of National Apprenticeship Week.

The event attracted pupils from five Pembrokeshire secondary schools, with students gaining valuable insights into the diverse career opportunities available within the refinery.

Representatives from various departments within the refinery delivered engaging presentations, outlining their roles and responsibilities within the organisation giving students the chance to learn about the different career paths available at the refinery, including operations, engineering, maintenance, and more.

The open day provided a platform for potential apprentices to interact with industry professionals, ask questions, and gain an understanding of the skills and qualifications required for a successful career in the refining industry.

Potential Valero apprentices had a chance to interact with various departments at the refinery to get a flavour of the variety of roles on offer for a long and successful career at the refinery.

“We’ve run an apprentice scheme at the refinery since 1977 and ours is widely accepted to be one of the best in the industry,” said Stephen Thornton, the refinery’s Public Affairs manager. “Our apprentices go on to have long and successful careers at the refinery and many have gone on to have refinery leadership roles. It’s a global passport to success.”
