No previous experience is necessary to join new workshops at the Torch, the ideal place for you to try your hand at being a script writer.
The Torch Theatre in Milford Haven is proud of its legacy in developing artists from across West Wales and this course provides the opportunity for everyone over 18 to explore their written creativity.
Their latest short course in creative writing for performance is launching this autumn.
The fun-filled, fortnightly sessions led by the Theatre’s expert team, focus on exploring and developing creative writing skills, getting ideas on the page, and giving characters a voice, as well as supporting people in sharing their work with others.
“I’m so looking forward to welcoming you to the creative writing sessions. Seeing your work develop on paper is a thrilling experience and creating storylines and characters is very rewarding. The opportunities for letting your imagination take control are endless,” explained Tim Howe, Torch Theatre’s Senior Manager Youth and Community.
Tim has worked as a writer and director, helping to develop new writing ranging from hard hitting contemporary drama, to musicals and family friendly productions, as well as pantomime. Alongside his own writing he has run workshops helping to develop writers at all levels.
Tim added: “To get the most out of your experience, we aim to create a nurturing and creative space so we can turn you into a writer for the stage. It’s all about expressing yourselves with words, being creative and having the confidence to explore a range of writing techniques.”
Prior to arriving at the Torch, Tim oversaw the incredibly successful Introduction to a Playwriting program at Cardiff’s Sherman Theatre which supported young people aged 15 - 18 to develop their first creative writing for stage, film and audio drama. He has adapted two books into large cast plays for young people – The Bangers and Chips Explosion and Treasure Island – and is currently working on an adaptation of Heidi for young people as well as a brand-new play exploring political scandals.
The sessions take place on a Thursday from 7.30pm – 9.30pm at the Torch Theatre, starting on Thursday, September 21. Other dates include October 5 and 19, as well as November 9 and 23. Each session costs £10.00.
