Saundersfoot Rotary held a Duck Race in aid of Saundersfoot Branch RNLI with hundreds of cheery bright yellow ducks sold for £1 each by branch volunteers ahead of them all being dropped off the harbour wall to race their way to victory.

Glorious weather and an enthusiastic crowd on Sunday, June 11 in Saundersfoot Harbour saw duck #389 hailed the winner with duck #846 in second place and duck #155 swimming up in third, all helping to raise over £700!

A spokesperson for Saundersfoot Branch RNLI said: “It’s fantastic news that Saundersfoot Rotary selected the RNLI as their chosen charity for this duck race. The branch wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the president and members and thanks everyone for helping to make the day a resounding success - including the Harbour Master and staff of Saundersfoot Harbour for opening the sluice, and everyone who took a chance on a duck.

“The RNLI relies on voluntary donations to ensure they can save lives around our coast and the money raised will help to ensure they can continue to carry out this lifesaving work.”

The last few weeks have been busy for branch volunteers. At the end of May they held a successful Coffee and Cake event at Saundersfoot Sailing Club with a delicious array of homemade cakes and raffle helping to raise an impressive £500 over a couple of hours. Thanks go to the Sailing Club for the use of the club and kitchen, to the volunteers and friends who donated cakes and prizes and to all who supported us by coming in for coffee, cake and a chat.

There was also cause to celebrate as two dedicated volunteers were presented during the event with long service awards recognising their contribution to the charity. The pair have been committed members, organising and participating in many events over the years which have helped provide the charity with vital funds. So congratulations go to Pauline Hunting on receiving her award recognising 40 years of volunteer service and to Helen Baggott who received her award for 20 years volunteer service.
