There was plenty of fun in the sun to be had at the Pembroke Dock Fire Station Fun Day on July 31 - all in aid of a very worthy charity.
The thrill of a ride in the cage at the top of a fire engine up, up into the sky proved irresistible for many children and there was a long line of young people waiting to enjoy the unique experience.
Children were also allowed to look inside a real life fire engine and climb aboard, and to try their hand at handling a genuine fire hose.
Those with a more mischievous disposition could ‘dunk a firefighter’ with careful aim of a rugby ball!
Thanks to the local ambulance service, there was an opportunity to try CPR using a training dummy. Pembroke and Pembroke Dock Police’s friendly PCSOs 8018, 8042 and PC 635 joined in the fun, offering a ‘hands on’ experience of fingerprinting and issuing activity sheets, stickers and advice leaflets on keeping children safe online.
There were firefighter demonstrations too, and the fun didn’t stop there, what with face painting, raffle, children’s play area and Forever II Charity’s first ever stall at Pembroke Dock Fire Station, offering merchandise, colouring competition and ‘name the teddy’ competition. “What an incredible turnout,” they remarked. The popular fun day had drawn quite a crowd.
With food and drink in plentiful supply, music by DJ Lionel made the party atmosphere complete.
“The open day manager this year was Hywel Matthews and he did a great job,” said a spokesperson for Pembroke Dock Fire Station. “The weather was hot and a lot of fun was had by all.”
“All money raised will go to the Fire Fighters Charity. There is still some money to come in from a few places but the total on the day was over £1,820.”
The Fire Fighters Charity provides excellent assistance to both serving and retired firefighters. “They are an amazing charity, and it is an honour to be organising the event in aid of them,” said Hywel Matthews.
