The bluefin tuna has been described as “a stunning marine animal, that leaps out of the water like a dolphin, speeds like a racehorse, and is bigger than a polar bear.” Can anyone help us confirm the identity of this giant found on Freshwater East?

Found washed up together on Freshwater East beach on the South Pembrokeshire Coast over the weekend were two marine animals.

The smaller one is a cetacean with a neat set of teeth, which looks like a common dolphin. (The ‘Freshwater East’ flash has been added to the main picture to obscure the macabre mess that crows or jackdaws had made around the eye area.)

As for the giant fish - to these inexpert eyes, it quickly brought to mind the word ‘tuna’. Two walkers nearby came to have a look and excitedly posited that it was indeed a tuna - even pointing out a yellowish fin. A ‘Google Lens’ reverse image search came up with Atlantic Bluefin Tuna as the top result.
