Huge congratulations goes to Golden Grove School/Ysgol Gelli Aur teacher Sion Jenkins for taking on the gruelling challenge in attempting to complete 100 laps of Carew Castle and Mill in less than 24 hours!
The Pembroke primary school teacher has so far raised over £4,000 to help purchase a trike/adapted bike to assist a visually impaired child in his class, and also took on the ‘100 challenge’ fundraiser set by the school, setting off on Sunday, as a tribute to Captain Sir Tom Moore.
“He didn’t quite complete the 100, but 91 miles in just over 17 hours is amazing. We are all extremely proud of him and I’m sure he has inspired many of us! Well done Sion!” said a spokesperson for the school.
After the challenge, Sion said: “It didn’t quite go to plan yesterday, I managed 91 miles. I’m devastated that I got so close, but yet so far away. I had over 4 hours remaining, but my feet and legs just wouldn’t budge anymore!
“There was incredible support throughout the day though - both running and spectating. It was an unbelievable experience!
“The money that has been raised played a huge factor, as well as running with the pupil who will receive his bike. I can’t thank everyone enough, for their generosity,” he added.
Sion has said that any additional money raised will be donated to local charities/NHS charities!
