The 1st Haven ( Pembroke) Scout Group are currently trying to raise £6,000 in order to build a bouldering wall on land behind their headquarters in Pennar, Pembroke Dock.
When finished, the wall will be an exciting opportunity for Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, not just from this group, but from all over Pembrokeshire, to practice basic bouldering and climbing techniques in a safe environment.
During the past year, the group has raised funds for this project by abseiling down Pembroke Castle keep, holding a mug stall, a duck race, picked and sold daffodils and written and sold murder mystery walks around Pembroke Dock.
In March 2014, an approach was made to the local Freemasons Lodges for financial assistance. This appeal was forwarded to the Provincial Grand Lodge of West Wales Charity Committee which very generously made an award of £2,500. Together with donations of £100 each from the Neyland Lodge, Castlemartin Lodge and Loyal Welsh Lodge, this makes a grand total of £2,800. This magnificent sum should allow the wall to be completed in time for it to be used for the centenary of Scouting in Pembroke Dock in 2016.
The cheque was presented to Mrs. Sandra Booth, 1st Haven Scouts, by W. Bro. Geoff Hall, of Loyal Welsh Lodge.
