The Welsh Emerging Drugs and Identification of Novel Substances service (WEDINOS) has found an increase in counterfeit branded pharmaceutical products and illicit drugs containing substances other than the intended purchase.

Health experts warn that these drugs can have serious implications on people’s health, including heightened risk of accidental overdose, as consumers have no idea what they are ingesting, and at what dose.

Cocaine was the most commonly identified substance overall and in the night-time economy.

The full annual report is on the Public Health Wales website.
