President Anne welcomed all to the February meeting in Kilgetty Community Hall. This was about the art of photography.
Julian Cremona, a botanist and photographer was well prepared and gave a very interesting talk accompanied by many fantastic photos which he has taken during his travels all over the world. He explained that he has loved to collect butterflies, moths and insects from a very young age; he was given a camera at age 10 which has developed into a lifelong passion. He has worked as a director locally at Dale Fort field centre and travels far and wide in his campervan.
The photographs were a variety of insects, sea creatures, reptiles and included plants and flowers from Namibia, Canada, Costa Rica and New Zealand. They were in incredible detail and colour. Julian gave many tips on taking a good photograph, demystifying the process and showing different techniques. Julia gave a vote of thanks for such an interesting and fascinating talk.
Hot drinks with homemade chocolate cake and drop scones followed and some social time before the general meeting commenced and Anne welcomed new visitors. Happy birthday wishes for Margaret who had a very ‘special’ birthday this month.
Bullet points were read from the January minutes: The raffle has now been increased to £1 to cover the prize and refreshments.
Entry for the Rose Bowl is being done by the craft group which is the last Tuesday in the month, 1.30 - 4.30pm.
Vacancies for the dressing of windows for WI house are still being discussed but it was thought that November may be a good month.
‘Anything Goes’ was again discussed and a decision made to enter next year as the date was too close for this year. The forming of a drama group was suggested for later in the year. Calendar entries for next year were encouraged.
Jane gave lots of information about the marmalade show and entries at Rhos Community Hall on Saturday, March 9 at 2pm.
Opportunities for the learning hub were also discussed and members were encouraged to go onto the My WI website to look at the variety of learning and crafts, etc.
A visitor, Penny Lacy, won the raffle.
The competition was for a photograph of a local scene. Winner was Kath Breen for both 1st and 2nd place.
Next Kilgetty WI meeting is on Tuesday, March 12 at 7pm.
