A successful beach clean was hosted by the Pembrokeshire Coast Charitable Trust at one of the county’s most popular beaches, Freshwater West.

On Friday, May 10, a dedicated group of 19 volunteers participated in the clean-up, coming from the Port of Milford Haven, Friends of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, and local businesses Magnet Kitchens and DP Energy. Armed with equipment provided by Keep Wales Tidy, the volunteers donated four hours of their time to collecting beach rubbish.

Their efforts resulted in a remarkable haul of 12 bags of litter. The collected waste will be disposed of responsibly, preventing harm to marine life and preserving the natural beauty of Pembrokeshire’s Coast.

Daniel Miles of Magnet Kitchens said: ‘I had a refreshing break from work to join the Magnet Projects team in a beach clean-up in the community. As a dad with young kids, it's disheartening to see litter on the beautiful beaches of Wales, but it felt fulfilling to help out in Pembrokeshire. I'm definitely planning to return with the family later this summer!”

His views were shared by colleague Collette Short, who added: “It’s lovely to be able to do something for the community that we work in, and what better way to kick off Mental Health Awareness Week than helping out a local charity?”

Jack O’Shea from the Port of Milford Haven thanked the team at Pembrokeshire Coast Charitable Trust for organising the beach clean: “a great opportunity for us to engage with our colleagues away from the office and meet new contacts from around Pembrokeshire in an outstanding setting.”

Lee Watt, Project Manager at DP Energy, a Silver Partner of the Pembrokeshire Coast Charitable Trust added: “It is great to provide hands on support by volunteering at events, especially when the focus is preserving the natural beauty of our local beaches.”

The trust is already looking ahead to its next beach-clean - at Manorbier, which is scheduled for Friday October 4. Any workplaces or individuals interested in taking part should contact Katie Macro at [email protected].
