MR. K. A. PHELAN of JEFFREYSTON - As previously reported, the death occurred peacefully on Saturday, July 8 at Withybush Hospital, of Mr. Kieran Arthur Phelan, aged 63 years, of Honey’s Croft, Jeffreyston.

Kieran was born on June 6, 1954, in Woking, Surrey, to Arthur and Margaret Phelan. He shared a happy childhood with his brother and two sisters. Upon leaving school, he trained as a mechanic with Mercedes Benz. In 1989, he came to Pembrokeshire to be the after sales manager at County Services in Haverforwest and worked for them until he started his own business in Pembroke Dock. He retired in 2015 due to ill health.

Kieran’s main interests were that he played football for, and managed Saundersfoot. He also played for Lawrenny and St. Florence. His other interests were darts and he enjoyed fishing with his late father-in-law John. Over the past couple of years, he had enjoyed going out for lunch with his wife Janet and their little dog Arthur, sometimes meeting other friends in different parts of the county.

Devoted husband of Janet, loving father of Kieron, Kevin and the late Jamie. Cherished grandfather to Amelia, Kelsey, James, Toni, Ben and Riley.

The funeral service took place on Thursday, July 20, at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth. Father Paul Davies officiated. Bearers were Keiran and Kevin (sons), Raymond Pullin (friend), Ryan Morton (nephew), Gareth Gwyther (friend) and Jonathan Eynon (brother-in-law).

MR. A. J. MURDOCH

STEPASIDE

As previously reported, the death occurred on Tuesday, June 20, of Mr. Alistair James Murdoch, aged 95 years, and known affectionately as John, of Stepaside.

A native of Portsoy, Banffshire, Scotland, Alistair joined the RAF in 1939 at the age of 17 years, and served with the 270 Squadron of Sunderland Flying Boats. He was stationed at various bases along the Atlantic Coast, involved in the reconnaissance of enemy submarines and u-boats. He was a Dunkirk evacuee. After the war, he was stationed at Pembroke Dock where he met Peggy and they married in 1952. After leaving the RAF, Alistair took up a position with the Anglo-African Timber Company in the Gold Coast, West Africa. In 1955, he purchased The Commercial Inn, Stepaside, later called The Stagecoach Inn where he was landlord until 1987.

His main interest in retirement was gardening, mainly growing vegetables, and he used to produce prize-winning tomatoes. He also enjoyed walking the coast path. In his later years, he liked watching sport on TV, especially horse racing and rugby.

He leaves to mourn his dearly-loved wife Marguerite Catherine Maud Murdoch (Peggy), Alistair and Joy (son and daughter), Janet (daughter-in-law), Michael and Moyra, Scotland (nephew and niece), Elizabeth, Catherine and Rosemary (nieces).

The funeral service was held on Friday, June 30, at Parc Gwyn Crematorium. The Rev. Steven M. Bessant officiated. Bearers were Michael Imlach, Terry Jones, Wayne Williams and Brian Fellowes.

PEMBROKE DOCK

The death occurred at Withybush General Hospital, Haverfordwest, on Saturday, July 8, of Mrs. Anne Valerie Coleman, aged 57 years, of Front Street, Pembroke Dock.

A native of Lydd, Romney Marsh, Kent, during her working life, she worked at the Castlemartin Barracks Hospital, a playground assistant at Pembroke Dock Community School and also assisted with dinners.

Her main interests were keeping fit with walking, gardening, running, crosswords and general writing, local history, her children encouraging them in their sporting activities, her pets Toffee the dog, cats Ginger, Tigger and Sasha.

Family left to mourn: Zoe, Ryan and Luke (children), their dad Dave, Marilyn andMaureen (sister), Graham and families (brother).

Bearers were Dave, Ryan and Luke Coleman, Graham Winnicott, Ian Morrell, Wayne Stone.

The funeral took place at St. John’s Church, Pembroke Dock, on Friday, July 28, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth. The Rev. Marina Evans officiated.
