The funeral took place recently of Mr. Ronald Neil Johnson aged 73 years and affectionately known as ‘Slim’ of Heritage View, Stepaside. A large attendance confirmed the way Neil was respected in the local community. Born in 1949 in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, Neil moved to Pembrokeshire at an early age and the county held a special place for him, even though he worked and moved around the country through his work as a builder. He will be remembered for his willingness to lend a hand to anyone needing help.
Neil loved a glass or two of wine and attended many regional and national wine festivals. He was also a great fan of Formula One racing and loved to travel. His family were an important part of his life and he spent many happy hours with them. Neil had suffered ill health for a number of months and passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 28.
The funeral took place at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth on Friday, August 19 and was led by Stewart and Elizabeth Treharne of E. C. Thomas and Son, Funeral Directors who were also family friends over many years. Revd. Norman Gilbert who officiated at Neil and Tina’s wedding, 12 years ago, gave the blessing.
Left to mourn are: Tina Johnson (wife), Victoria and Wendy, (daughters) Emily and Pete (daughter and son-in-law), Matthew, Jessica, Beth and Lucas (grandchildren). Merrilee and Chris, Rory and Janine, (step-children and spouses) Karli and Romeo, Ryan and Kelly (step-children and partners) together with 10 step-grandchildren.
Bearers were Ceri Richards, Robert Kemble, David Griffiths, Adam Griffiths, Rhys John and Henry Goodrick-Clarke.
Donations in lieu of flowers for Mia’s Appeal (for Cystic Fibrosis) and Wales Air Ambulance may be sent c/o E C Thomas and Son, Zoar Chapel Funeral Home, Llanteg, Narberth SA67 8QH and 21, Main Street, Pembroke SA71 4JS who conducted the funeral arrangements.
