It’s Christmas 2022. In the Pembrokeshire town of Pembroke Dock, as we have battled through treacherous sub-zero, road-freezing conditions followed by rain and gloom, the magical lights and decorations that line the streets have been lifting our spirits.

A twinkling canopy of lights in the town centre gives the impression of seasonal snow, or perhaps a starlit sky.

Two tone patterns of stars and snowflakes have been lighting up Dimond Street and Meyrick Street all through the day and night, throughout this season of goodwill, a comforting reminder at a time of industrial action and cost-of-living crises.

And the Christmas tree’s colourful lights are reflected on the pavement beneath, to kaleidoscopic effect.

Many of the town’s shops have been entering into the festive spirit, with tasteful, bright displays…

…and the jollity of the season makes spirits bright.

The town has had its share of celebrations. On December 8, a combined choirs concert was held in the Market Hall, then on December 10, Pembroke Dock Town Council organised a Winter Carnival parade and Christmas Market.

Bethel Baptist Church (seen below) held a candlelit carol service on December 18 with the Pembroke Borough Silver Band, and Zion Free Church marked Christmas Eve with a service of Nine Lessons and Carols.

Parish services on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day included a Messy Crib Service, Midnight Communion Service and Christmas Day Family Communion.

Today, at the Harlequins Rugby Club, a three-course Christmas lunch is underway; free to those who need it. “All we want for Christmas is everyone together,” said organisers Annie and Jodie.

Pembroke Dock Town Council has announced that their office will reopen on January 5, 2023. In the meantime, they wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
