Local residents together with the Mayor of Pembroke, Ann Mortenson, attended a special lunch in honour of the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day landings on the coast of Northern France on June 6, 1944.
The event was organised by Pembroke Town Council and several council staff worked hard to prepare and serve a nostalgic 1940s-style lunch consisting of corned beef pie, mashed potatoes, peas and gravy, followed by bread and butter pudding with Ideal milk.
Before the meal, the Country Life Trio entertained with a selection of wartime songs.
After an enjoyable afternoon renewing acquaintance and meeting new friends, some 50 diners dispersed into the bright June sunshine, still humming the old songs: ‘Keep smiling through just like you always do...’
