Two of Morrisons management members provided a memorable supermarket shopping spree for Pembroke Probus Club at its luncheon meeting on Tuesday. Sixty members attended.
Sarah Mason, personnel manager and Robert Burden, assistant deputy manager, delivered a PowerPoint presentation describing the many aspects of the supermarket business.
Members were told that Morrisons is the fourth largest supermarket chain in the UK with over 400 stores and an annual turnover of £16 billion; more than the joint turnovers of M&S and Debenhams combined.
Wherever possible, priority is given to the purchase of local produce and the main objective of the company is to keep on increasing the current provision of locally sourced items such as cheese, Welsh cakes, Welsh ready meals, bread, ice-cream, potatoes, as well as any new suitable local lines that become available.
The presentation lasted just under one hour and upon its conclusion, a short lively questions and answer session was conducted by the president, David Holt.
The vote of thanks was given by Tony Peters, the member from beyond the outer limits of the club's sphere of influence.
Shortly afterwards, many of the members stayed on for a delicious high quality carvery meal provided by the Cleddau Bridge Hotel.
The next club luncheon meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 5, when the guest speaker will be Mary St. Clair, chairman of the Campaign for the Protection of Rural Wales (CPRW).
Excursions planned for 2012 include a visit to the waterfront maritime museum in Swansea. Further details of Pembroke Probus Club's activities from the speakers secretary, tel. 01646 683708.
