The tension at Heatherton was palpable. The competing club members gulped down their coffee, while carefully sizing up the competition. Conversation was concentrated on the weather and the effect that it could have on the golf. Should studded shoes have been worn and would an umbrella act as a lightning rod? In the event, we were spared the extremes of the weather. The competition involved the firing of four different projectiles using pistol, shotgun, bow and golf bat. They had obviously been carefully selected by the club committee to be in total contrast with the everyday activities of club members. It produced a level playing field that injected hilarity into the proceedings. So we had a competition that was slow and hilarious, rather than fast and furious. I found the golf a trifle disconcerting, it seemed to be an awful lot of walking with the main aim to lose the ball. I must admit I excelled at it! Competition over, we repaired to a local hostelry for the lunch and to award the trophy to the Victor Ludorum. Dai Holt achieved this and is to be congratulated. Another successful Pembroke Probus day out.
