Tenby’s historic fort St Catherine’s Island will welcome members of the public back this Friday after lockdown restrictions to allow tourist attractions to re-open were eased by the Welsh Government

The landmark, which is located at the foot of the resort’s Castle Beach, is ready to open its doors to visitors from July 24, between 12.30 and 6.30 pm.

“This year the fort is 150 years old, so we are delighted to also announce that the fort has undergone lots of pampering during the lockdown, so it’s worth seeing all the fantastic differences and to hear news of our up-coming plans,” said a spokesperson for the island

“We have a Covid-19 risk assessment in place so we will all keep you as safe as is possible within the recommended guidelines.”

The island has seen a wealth of visitors welcomed in recent years, after measures were put in place by its owners to allow members of the public back onto the landmark and into the fort, which once housed a zoo in the late 60s up until 1979.

The landmark gained worldwide exposure a couple of years ago after doubling up as a maximum security prison for scenes for the season finalé of BBC One’s ‘Sherlock’ series starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.
