Talks have been held over the possibility of illuminating Tenby’s historic town walls.

Following the felling of all 19 of the red horse chestnut trees along the resort’s South Parade in July because of fungal infection, councillors have been presented with a ‘blank canvas’ to determine what should be prioritised for that area of the town, and have been looking into revisiting a longstanding idea to light up the town walls.

Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of Tenby Town Council, the town clerk, Andrew Davies, told members that he had met with Pembrokeshire County Council’s head of environment and civil contingencies, Richard Brown, and regeneration manager, Sinead Henehan, to look to a forward plan.

“I floated the suggestion of floodlighting for the town walls and they both seemed keen on the idea. Mr. Brown said he’d have a word with the ‘techies’ to see what is required, whilst Ms Hehehan said that she would look into possible avenues of grant funding, with the possibility of Heritage Lottery funding being required to finance any scheme,” said Mr. Davies.

The Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, asked for the item to be kept on the agenda.
