Members of Lower Landsker Trefoil Guild celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee a day early, on Wednesday, June 1 in beautiful sunshine.

They began the day by walking up to Allen’s View and planting an oak tree under the watchful eye of Harry Gardiner of Tenby Civic Society. The tree had been grown from an acorn by member Barbara Pegg, so it was fitting that she put the first spadeful of earth on it, aided by Chairman, Margaret Peake and Trefoil gardening expert, Barbara Morris who had helped dig the hole on the previous evening.

It was a happy coincidence that the tree was placed quite near to the bench presented by 3rd Tenby Brownies in 1977, as Margaret was Tawny Owl of the pack at that time.

Members then made their way to the gardens opposite Croft Court to enjoy a picnic lunch overlooking the wonderful panorama of Tenby Harbour and North Beach. They were delighted to welcome Dorothy Lee who has moved from Shropshire and has a lifelong connection with Guiding and Trefoil. In another happy coincidence, Dorothy’s daughter, Penny along with Jenny Vince who joined them from the Bridgend area; both renewed their Promise.

The Guiding Promise is and always has been central to the movement and is first made as a Rainbow, then as a Brownie, then Guide and possibly as a Ranger. Many go on to renew their Promise as Guide leaders, and for those who never leave this worldwide movement, their final renewal is as a member of Trefoil. The movement is particularly proud of the fact thet our Queen was a Guide and a Ranger.

After the serious part of the morning members enjoyed prosecco, strawberries and blueberries, sang some campfire songs and ended with a rousing rendition of the National Anthems. All agreed it had been a great celebration of a remarkable woman’s 70 year reign.
