Funding from the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund is helping to improve play areas and equipment throughout Carmarthenshire.

One example of this is the creation of a new play area in the small rural village of Llanboidy.

Work set about to develop the park, with support from residents with previous experience in the field, and an application was made to the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. Demonstrating huge support, the community agreed to install the equipment, not only reducing costs but increasing the sense of local ownership.

Throughout the installation process, locals were invited to help, through laying down grass mats, cutting grass and installing the play equipment. Now work has finished, the park is open to the public. A fantastic community effort!

Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Culture, Leisure and Tourism, Cllr Hazel Evans commented:

“Working closely with our communities is vital to this work, listening to what local people want is key to making successful improvements, commitment and dedication demonstrated by communities has been commendable, creating wonderful new opportunities for children to enjoy the freedom of play”.

Other local projects of a similar nature include Llangunnor play park; Trimsaran Community Recreation Area and several projects around Llanelli.
