West Angle Bay, at Angle, Pembrokeshire, has been named in The Times’ list of seven of the UK’s best seaside picnic spots.

The seven locations are judged to be the perfect coastal spots for the Great British Picnic.

An article published on Tuesday, June 25 lists first the stony beaches and breakwaters of Whitstable Bay in Kent, while Belhaven beach, Dunbar, East Lothian, follows next. West Angle Bay comes third.

“The scenery may be epic –” the national newspaper says, “here on West Angle Bay, you’re at the exposed tip of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park — but the picnicking is refined.”

The Times notes that Angle offers a range of picnicking options, including a beachside ploughman’s from Wavecrest Café or more experimental options from one of the local food trucks parked alongside, like Romy’s Crepes or Atlantic Edge Oysters.

“Of course, if you’re a picnic purist, there’s nothing to stop you taking your food to go and setting up on the pretty bay, comfy enough for your picnic rug,” the ’paper adds.

The other beaches making the shortlist are Prussia Cove, Penzance in Cornwall; Castlerock beach, Co Londonderry in Ireland; Branksome beach near Bournemouth in Dorset and Ravenglass beach in Cumbria.
