Councillors in Tenby have asked for clarity on who is responsible for the upkeep of land around ‘luxury beachside apartments’ located alongside the South Beach after the area was criticised for a lack of landscaping and having ‘more weeds there than the whole of Pembrokeshire’.
Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, the town clerk, Andrew Davies, told members that he had got in touch with Birt and Co, the property management team responsible for the Water’s Edge development, after Clr. Paul Rapi had said that the area needed a serious spruce-up as nothing appeared to have been done around the apartments for some time in terms of landscaping.
“I conducted a walkabout of the area with Birt and Co who said that they were managing the development on behalf of another company, but that some of the area in question that needed landscaping was outside of their remit, as it was outside of the development’s boundaries, such as the weeds on walkways etc.
“It would seem that the area with the weeds is not the responsibility of Water’s Edge and not Pembrokeshire County Council either, so ownership needs to be established.
“Birt and Co have said that they have spoken to the developer and been given instructions to get the area cleaned, with work to be undertaken asap. They also said that the wooden boundary fence would be replaced.”
Clr. Mike Evans asked for the clerk to follow up the matter with the legal department of PCC to establish clarification as to who was responsible.
“Anybody who took on the obligations of that site would have had that parcel of land included, otherwise they wouldn’t have access to the cafe and restaurant area.
“The new developers that took on the site have done an amazing job, and the private ground is lovely, but the public ground is part of it, and this work needs to be done on behalf of the town,” he added.
Clr. Paul Rapi said that he originally brought the matter up around eight months ago, and was still concerned that summer was around the corner and nothing had been done about the state of that area.
