AS we approach the festive season, it is with great warmth and joy that I extend my heartfelt Christmas greetings to all the residents, visitors and businesses of Narberth.
This time of year is always special, a time to reflect on the year gone by and to share in the spirit of goodwill, kindness, and community.
2024 has been a year of both challenges and triumphs, but through it all, the people of Narberth have shown incredible resilience, unity, and compassion. Whether it was supporting our local businesses, helping neighbours in need, or participating in community events, you have made this town a wonderful place to live, work, and visit.
As we gather with friends and family this Christmas, let us also take a moment to remember those who are less fortunate—those who may be struggling with difficult circumstances, whether due to illness, hardship, or isolation. Let us offer our support, kindness, and generosity to ensure that no one is forgotten during this special time of year. Whether it’s through a small act of kindness, a donation to local charities, or simply reaching out to someone who might need a little extra cheer, together we can make a difference.
Looking ahead to the year to come, we know that 2025 may bring its own set of challenges. But if this year has shown us anything, it is that we are resilient. Narberth is a community that rises to the occasion, and I am confident that together we will face whatever comes our way with strength, unity, and hope. While the road ahead may not always be easy, we will continue to support one another, adapt, and keep moving forward—stronger together.
On a personal note, I want to share with you that my term as Mayor will come to an end in May next year. It has been a great honour to serve this community, and I will be stepping down from the Town Council after that time. As someone who was born and raised in Narberth and someone who has a huge family history in the town – I can say - it has been a huge privilege to serve the town I love so dearly. I hope that during my time as Mayor, I have been able to make a difference and contribute to the continued growth and well-being of our wonderful town. Although I will no longer serve in an official capacity, I will remain supportive of Narberth and its future, and I am confident that the spirit of community that defines us will continue to thrive.
I would also like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to Mrs Caroline Coaker, who will be retiring as Town Clerk after 24 years of outstanding service. Caroline has been an integral part of our community, and as the longest-serving Town Clerk in Pembrokeshire, her dedication, hard work, and commitment have made an immeasurable impact on Narberth. We are truly grateful for her years of service, and I know I speak for everyone in Narberth when I say she will be deeply missed. We wish Caroline all the best in her well-deserved retirement.
Christmas is a time to come together, to cherish those we hold dear, and to look forward to the possibilities of the year ahead. Let us celebrate the season with love, laughter, and a renewed sense of hope for the future.
On behalf of Narberth Town Council, I would like to thank each and every one of you for your ongoing support and commitment to our beautiful town.
May this Christmas bring you peace, happiness, and the company of loved ones, and may the New Year be filled with new opportunities and brighter days for us all.
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year!
Cllr Chris Walters
