The annual pairs competition for members of the Saundersfoot, Tenby and Whitland clubs took place last week at the Saundersfoot green on Spring Bank Holiday Monday, with 21 teams split into four sections and after a round robin format the top two in each group progressing to the knock out stages.

The event, which has been sponsored since 2004 by W. and M. J. Rossiter and Sons, the independent family funeral directors of Tenby and Narberth, had teams playing for total prize money of £365, plus t-shirts, bowls holders and bowls towels, and, of course, the prestigious cut glass Rossiter trophy.

The eventual winners, after thrilling quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals, were Andrew Evans, of Whitland, and Ryan Thomas, of Tenby, who defeated Myrddin Dennis and Brian Desmond, of Saundersfoot.

In the play-off for third place, Ashley and Steve Reese, of Whitland, were victorious over Kieran Peregrine and Chris Court, of Tenby.

At the presentation ceremony which was conducted by Simon Rossiter and Paul Blayney, all the competitors were thanked, the winners congratulated and the ladies led by Diane Rigden and bar staff receiving special mention for keeping everyone fed and watered throughout the day, with Simon thanking Paul for organising the event, before making a presentation to him and Diane.

The proceeds of £200 from the entries and raffle plus a donation from the Saundersfoot club were then presented by village vice-chairlady Diane Rigden to Simon Rossiter, who is raising money for the Chemotherapy Unit at Withybush Hospital.

The knock out section results were:
