Tenby’s Mayor-elect Clr. Tony Brown opened the 2019 season at Tenby Bowling Club by bowling the first wood, having earlier delivered the Ken Hewlings Silver Jack in the traditional curtain raiser to the season.
While it was gloriously sunny, it was also bitingly cold, so all but the hardiest took the sage advice of club president, David Spencer, and repaired upstairs to the clubhouse, to plan for the visit of Kidwelly tomorrow (Saturday) for the traditional friendly season opener.
We congratulate Jonathan Webb on his year as president of the Pembrokeshire County Association, and wish him well.
On the green, the Sharks will be looking to regain the county title and also to bring the Carruthers Shield back to the club after a decade away. Our thanks to the Giltar Hotel for their continuing sponsorship of the Shield team.
The Five Arches team are hopeful of a quick return to rejoin them in the top flight, while the ladies and gents of the Giltar and Goscar teams both face busy seasons in the revamped Meyrick Owen League.
Add a smattering of friendly games and county representative fixtures, plus Gold Cup week, sponsored by Molson Coors (Sunday, July 28 - Friday, August 2) and the Valero Pairs tournament (Saturday and Sunday, August 31 and September 1) and there will always be plenty going on the green and in the Sutton Street clubhouse.
Tenby Bowling Club is always pleased to see visitors and members on and off the green, so why not pop in and see us? You will be made very welcome.
