Children from various Pembrokeshire cricket clubs enjoyed a U9 cricket festival in the amazing surroundings of Pembroke Castle recently.
Eight clubs took took part, from Haverfordwest, Hook, Neyland, St. Ishmaels, Saundersfoot, Whitland, Cresselly, and Lawrenny.
It was the second time that a cricket festival has been organised for youngsters in the castle grounds by Sport Pembrokeshire - Pembrokeshire County Council’s sports development team.
Cricket officer Martin Jones said everyone entered into the spirit of cricket, with parents, grandparents and other supporters also enjoying the event.
“Each team played two games, with the emphasis on learning, fun and enjoyment,” he said.
“I’d like to thank Jon Williams and Carys Mills from Pembroke Castle for their support once again in helping us to stage the festival.”
Soft cricket balls donated by Cricket Wales and Glamorgan Cricket Club were presented to all the players and younger children, as well as a few mums, to practice with at home.
The special guest was ‘Starry’ from All Stars Cricket, a cricketing initiative to encourage children aged between five and eight to get involved in cricket.
The initiative, now in its second year, also aims to help children develop a whole range of general skills from communication to co-ordination and respect, as well as batting, bowling, and fielding skills.
