TENBY UNDER 14s 8

COSHESTON 2

Tenby Under 14s faced Cosheston Strikers in the West Wales Cup at the Clicketts, a game already called off the previous week, along with many league games, so the boys where keen to get going.

And they did just that, being on the front foot from the start, with some great early play resulting in an early goal from the excellent Joe Evans.

To be fair, it was pretty much all Tenby and the pressure again soon told, with an own goal helping the Seasiders’ cause.

The lads continued to play some lovely football, with Archie Smith turning provider for Kurt Sarrionandia to bag the third for the home team.

Comfortable as it was on a boggy, rainy day, some great stuff was being played and the fourth was soon to come, with a lovely ball played by Will Malone through to Archie for his first of the match.

Soon after the restart, Archie himself then provided Jack Jones with the fifth goal of the game.

To their credit, Cosheston never stopped putting 100 per cent into the game and this was starting to show as they soon found themselves two goals to the good and very much in the game as they finished the first half strongly.

It’s often said that the beautiful game is one of two halves, but despite Cosh trying their best to close the gap further, Will Malone went on an excellent solo run to restore the four-goal cushion.

The Tenby defensive trio also stood strong as the visitors kept trying to break them down, and to be honest, what happened next was equivalent to a top bins goal, a 40-yard pass or a magnificent save.

Cosh had all but broken through the midfield and only had one defender to beat, but what or who was it? Was it a bird? No. Was it a plane? No. Was it superman? No. It was a soaring Ned Davies (pictured) in a moment of pure instinct, knowing it was the only way he could stop the attack, who produced a superb diving header that resulted in him chewing on a mouthful of the Clicketts mud, but he was soon up to continue the play and it meant goal number two for Archie.

Don’t know what Dewi threatened Ned with, maybe another 90 at the Liberty! But, to be honest, if there was a man-of-the-match, Ned certainly nailed it.

Cosh were still trying to play decent football, along with the home team, but soon the match was well and truly put to bed with a great run by Iori Humpries who played a lovely ball through to Archie to seal the game and his hat-trick for the day.

All in all, a great performance for coaches Dewi and Phil Catlin. Next in the cup they face Swansea team Bishopston, at home, on February the 17.
