The club basked in glorious Spring sunshine last Saturday for our annual Pro’s Day.

The day is put on by our director of golf to thank members for their continued support and this year saw over 60 golfers taking part.

The format was Texas Scramble and the scoring was low! Very low!

A very light wind and receptive greens, coupled with beautiful sunshine throughout the day provided ideal playing conditions.

A complimentary halfway house was sponsored by Claire Thompson from Coors, Tom and Sian and Ollie, providing snacks and refreshments on such a warm day.

Looking after the halfway house was Beth Machin and Lucy Morris, who at the end of the year will be climbing Kilimanjaro. The girls provided a raffle with some fantastic prizes from local businesses and raised nearly £200. On completion of the presentation, they thanked all the members and guests for their support!

There were lots of smaller competitions being competed for throughout the day, with events such as nearest the line on the 10th providing some great entertainment in front of a packed terrace.

On completion of play, Ollie gave heartfelt thanks to all the members, the owners and his staff for their continued support, whilst highlighting the hard work of the greens team on the back of such a difficult winter.

Seniors slip up at Newport

After losing our first match away to Milford Haven, we were hoping for a better performance away to Newport. The captain changed partnerships and with some players dropping out and new faces coming in, we were hopeful of a change of luck.

Things started well, with John Voysey and Dave McMann winning the opening match 2 and 1. This was followed with another win, courtesy of Barry Neale and Bob Forrest winning their match 4 and 2.

The next match featuring Alun Williams and Dennis Holloway was lost 2 and 1; unfortunately for Alun and Dennis, they came across two opponents with red hot putters. Dave Crowley and Glyn Latcham got us back on track winning two up.

Unfortunately that was as good as it got, all the next matches were lost. John Richards with Derek Jones, Ian Whiting with Graham Harrison and Wayne Connett with Colin Rowe all lost 2 and 1. John Perrott and Brian Miller battled hard, but lost one down and Jack Zeraschi with Steve Jones brought up the rear, losing 6 and 4.

Another 6 to 3 loss. I dare say there will be words from captain John before our next match, away again, this time to Glyn Abbey. Let’s hope the weather is fine!

Classic double for Seniors

Trefloyne entered two teams in the South Wales Seniors Classic, the A team drawn at home to Glynhir, the B team also drawn at home to Haverfordwest B.

The A team were first to play, Mike Allen and Bob Forrest leading off and battling to a hard-earned half.

Next to play were Pat Casement and Alun Williams, with another battling performance seeing Pat and Alun win one up on the last hole.

The final pair of Glyn Latcham and Graham Longster had a slightly more comfortable match, winning 4 and 3, to seal a 2.5 to .5 win for Trefloyne.

After knowing the A team had won, the pressure was on the B team to follow suit.

Glen Hunter with Barry Neale led off and won 3 and 2. Next off were Dennis Holloway with Meurig Evans, who eventually won 3 and 2. Finally, John Voysey and Dave Crowley looked to be cruising, four up after nine, but lost three of the next four holes, before battling on to win one up.

So a 3 to 0 win for Trefloyne. We look forward to the draw for the next round to see what comes our way.
