The Player of the Month for January was announced after the Pontyberem match and the winner of the award, voted for by the players and coaches was young, dedicated and energetic prop Lloyd Davies.

The next fixture for the senior squad is away against Mumbles on March 23rd, KO 2.30pm. Any supporters wishing to travel on the team bus should be at the club by 11am.

The squad only have three League matches to play after the above one, these are March 30th Loughor at home KO 2.30pm, April 13th Pontyberem away KO 2.30pm and finally St Clears away on April 27th KO 2.30pm. All of these are eagerly awaited by players and supporters alike and the outcomes will decide our fate with regard to the League title and possible promotion. Everyone at the club wishes the squad every success in their bid for League success during what has been another truly marvellous season.

Last season the supporters were asked to vote on their PLAYER OF THE SEASON and the winner of this award was announced at the Annual Dinner (and in this weekly report). The voting slips for this season’s ballot will be available on the bar at the final home game on March 30th and the closing date for voting will be APRIL 30th; all completed voting slips need to be placed in the BALLOT BOX inside the clubhouse by this deadline.

WOMEN’S RUGBY

The ladies travelled to play Port Talbot Reds last Sunday afternoon and put up another very good performance against a much more battle hardened Reds outfit. The final result of 43-12 to the Reds was not a true reflection of the effort and development shown by the Panthers, who produced some very exciting and well constructed attacking play together in both halves, which lead to two tries for No 8 Isabelle Dufresnoy (returning after a broken nose in her first match a few weeks ago) and some determined defensive tackling. Three more players made their debuts for the Panthers, which indicates that this new squad continues to attract women keen to take up the sport. The coaches were extremely pleased with the overall performance of their squad, who they say are making real progress in their first competitive season. There are a few pictures from the match alongside.

The squad will now play Carmarthen University Women away on the evening of Monday March 18th and then they will host the Talbot Reds on Sunday March 24th, KO time yet to be confirmed.

SECOND XV

The Tigers were due to entertain Haverfordwest last Friday evening under lights in another round of the new District H seconds Cup competition. However, the rain rendered the pitch unplayable and the match was cancelled to be hopefully replayed in the coming week.

Pembroke still have to play Milford away in a re-arranged fixture to complete their initial matches of this competition, in which the six competing teams have been divided into two groups of three, to play round robins, with the top teams in each group eventually playing for the Cup, the teams in second place play for the Plate and the teams in third place play for the Bowl, on a finals day yet to be arranged in April/May, when all three matches will be played one after the other The whole competition has been designed to raise and extend the profile of second team competition in our District.

YOUTH

Following a very comprehensive win over Cardigan, Pembroke have drawn Narberth at home in the semi-final of the Pembrokeshire Youth Cup, which will now be played on April 13th, KO 2.30pm.

Meantime, the squad will play League matches against Crymych away on March 23rd, Tenby away on April 6th KO 2.30pm.

The annual Youth Sevens Tournament at the club will now take place on Saturday May 11th, starting as soon after midday as possible. As always clubs from around our District are invited to participate and will need to register by contacting our club officials through the usual channels.

UNDER 16S REPRESENTATIVE RUGBY

Both Evan Sheldon and Eljay Taylor were recently delighted to receive the news that they had selected to play for the Scarlets full U16s squad. The club has sent letters of congratulation and wish both boys every success in the forthcoming round of Regional matches.

JUNIORS

Last weekend some of the age groups played in their respective Cup competitions. The U12s were away to Llangwm, they performed very creditably and won a convincing victory, whilst the U15s were away to Milford Haven and they too played exceptionally well and also won by a very convincing margin. Both sides now await the draw for the next round. Well done to both squads.

The U13s also had a very convincing and hard fought win away in Aberystwyth last weekend, the picture shows the victorious squad with their happy, smiling coaches.
