THE fascinating story behind some of the shipwreck remains that litter the Pembrokeshire coast will be revealed at the next meeting of the Pembrokeshire Historical Society when the guest speaker will be maritime archaeologist Dr Julian Whitewright.

Having grown up in Pembrokeshire, Dr Whitewright is now based in St Davids, although his work for the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales covers the whole of the country.

His talk will explain the maritime archaeological work undertaken by the RCAHMW, with a particular focus on the recent work that has been carried out around Pembrokeshire. This includes surveys of archaeological material in the intertidal zone, especially shipwrecks, and also coastal structures such as limekilns.

All are welcome to the lecture on Friday, February 7, 2.30pm, at the Pembrokeshire Archives in Prendergast, Haverfordwest.
