A GROUP from the Tenby area has enjoyed a trip to Bruges, Ypres and Lille with Welsh connections, organised by Justin Lewis’s Travelarts.

Departing from Dover to Calais on the ferry, to stay in Mouscron, a delightful town just over the French border in Belgium, the visitors spent their first day in Bruges, the ‘Venice of the North’, boating on the canals, tasting the delicious chocolate and enjoying the sights on horse-drawn carriages.

The next day, Justin had arranged for the group to visit Ypres for the sounding of TheLast Post, which takes place every day at 8pm, but before that they had a mystery trip, first to Sluis, a beautiful town in Holland, and then on to the Welsh memorial in Langemark-Poelkapelle near Ypres, for soldiers of the First World War. Nearby is the memorial to Hedd Wyn, the Welsh language poet, killed on the first day of the Battle of Passchendaele.

The final day was spent in Lille, a bustling French city, visiting the art galleries and exploring the old city, Vielle Lille.
