A SAUNDERSFOOT man was sentenced after pleading guilty to the assault by beating of a police constable in the village.

On October 21, 2024, he had also admitted damaging a police vehicle and cell.

Leighton James, of Middlehill, appeared before Haverfordwest Magistrates’ Court on January 6 for sentencing.

Taking guilty pleas into account, court sentenced the 51-year-old to a total of 14 weeks’ imprisonment, suspended for 12 months, with 90 days of alcohol abstinence and monitoring, alongside rehabilitation activity and 200 hours’ unpaid work.

James was also ordered to pay compensation of £490.00 in total, plus £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service and a surcharge of £154. An application was made for a benefit deductions collection order.
