Hot on the heels of Oriel Q Gallery’s successful fundraising auction comes Arthur Brooker’s unusual show "Break In”.

Expect a show with a difference, without a land or seascape in sight! Arthur draws inspiration from rave culture, geometry, negative space and the collective of artists with whom he works closely. Expect sharp lines, bold colours, high contrast striking images as well as multi-dimensional sculptural work, all enhanced by dynamic lighting.

Arthur runs Breakout Gallery in Haverfordwest, which is responsible for the town-wide Breakout exhibition that brings artwork from numerous local artists to the town over the summer months. Breakout Gallery also exhibits large-scale works at festivals such as Westival, Growing Wild, NozStock, and How the Light Gets In. So, his challenge is to scale down this bigger public work, creating pieces to fit into this more conventional gallery setting.

For this collection, the tools and materials used include spray paint, natural foliage, masking tape, sticky back vinyl sheets, roller cutters and rags, with a splash of acrylic.

“The most exciting part” says Arthur, “has been working with some of my closest friends and collaborating with other artists to create some really original new joint works. I see a lot of similarity between how I create my work and how music producers produce music. I want to take the audience on an exciting, energetic, visual journey allowing others to remix my work and bring their own perspectives to it.”

With her ceramic, small scale, shelter-like structures, Artist of the Month Janie Pridham occupies the window space with an exploration of what it’s like to be homeless. She spent a year exploring homelessness and speaking to people affected, making sketches and focussing on those reduced to living on the street.

Initially drawn to these colourfully patterned ceramic shelters, it’s only after a while that the enormity - of having nowhere to lay one’s head in the cold, dark and rain - breaks through.
