The wait is finally over! 11-year-old Haverfordwest High School pupil Jac is the winner of the Torch Theatre Design a Golden Object competition for this year’s spectacular pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk.
Young people from across West Wales were invited to design a fantastic priceless object that could only be found in the Giant’s Golden Room. With 150 entries across all age ranges, Jac has been crowned the golden winner.
The judges were delighted by designs such as stinky socks, everlasting cheesecakes, glittering football boots and sparkly butterflies, but Jac’s design for a giant golden croc was a foot above the rest! The Torch Theatre caught up with the very worthy winner to see how it feels to be crowned the champ.
“I was very happy and couldn't believe I had won. I am excited to see my croc in giant size! I have crocs and I had them on when I was thinking what I could draw. I thought it would be funny to see it in a huge size,” said a delighted Jac.
He added: “I think the crocs’ magic power should be to hide the smell of really smelly feet, so they always smell nice. I go to the pantomime every year so I can’t wait to see my idea in it.”
Runners up in each category were: Under 5s: Gwilym and Lucie - who both designed superb stinky socks! 5 to 11: Nell - who created a beautiful sparkly butterfly. 11- 18 - Jayden - who sent us a gloriously powerful golden whistle which when you blow it says "No".
The winning design will be featured in the pantomime running throughout December. All the other entries to the competition will be displayed in the theatre’s gallery.
Jack and the Beanstalk will run from Friday, December 13 - Sunday, Dec 29 with matinee and evening performances. Relaxed Environment Performance on Saturday, December 14 at 2pm. BSL Performance - Tuesday, December 17 at 6pm.
